Malavika Rajkotia

Malavika Rajkotia is an attorney with about 31 years of experience in a wide range of practice areas. She has developed a focus on family and property law, and also takes up issues pertaining to civil liberties and environmental law.

Her personal interests are theatre where she has been active, having done about 30 Hindi and English productions as also a television law based serial called “Bhanwar”. She anchored the first Hindi Television Talk show in India called Shakti, which focused on women’s rights. She also works with various NGOs like Sakshi and IFSHA on civil liberties and human rights issues.

Malavika’s first book “Intimacy Undone” was released in February 2017. In her book, Malavika examines the complexities of marital relations and disruptions in India and provides an insightful view of the practice of family law through a gendered lens.

This book will delight students, teachers, judges, lawyers, researchers and law makers and reformers alike.  The author inspires, exposes, delights and educates. The book is an eye-opener, a must read and re-read. What a great journey and experience with law and justice.

Ms Rajkotia is an engaging guide to the currents and counter-currents shaping India’s convoluted family law at a time when social conservatives are anxious about the breakdown of traditional family structures. Her narrative delves into the evolution of divorce law in India and the UK, and depictions of women in traditional Indian mythology and contemporary popular culture.
